Kimberly Sheridan was born and raised in New Jersey, and received a BFA in Illustration from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. She has applied her skills in many industries, including product development, technical illustration, and graphic design for the New York City based handbag company, Barr + Barr. Kimberly also worked for the world-renowned artist, Jeff Koons, doing detail work on aluminum and aqua resin sculptures. She animated the opening credit for the group, Arapeyat, in the film Slingshot Hip Hop, which was a 2008 Sundance Film Festival official selection. Kimberly's art frequently confronts ironies in social perception, and the paradoxical expectations in gender stereotypes. Combining intricate beauty with the slightly morbid, juxtaposing images with unexpected text, she transports us to a world that is partly dark, partly humorous, and always beautiful. Drawing from a wide range of inspiration from art nouveau to tattoo design, most pieces are created in ink and acrylic paint, on a variety of interesting papers, animal parchment, or yellowed pages ripped from old books. |
